I went to Barnes and Noble last week, and found an entire table of books related to The DaVinci Code. The was the original book, books that said Dan Brown was only telling half the truth, and books that asserted that Dan Brown was a complete liar.

Well, of course he's lying.

It's fiction!

The Fundies aren't taking this fiction lying down. Spurred by the same feelings that caused Ayatollah Khomeini to issue a fatwah against Salman Rushdie, they are launching an all out attack, not on the movie, but on the viewer: "'Our concern is that "The Da Vinci Code" will mislead people about the truth,' said Bishop Robert Forsyth" of Australia. So they have set up a website to put the truth out there 'cause people are stupid.

Before anyone says, "That's what the right does," rest assured that the Left participates in this kind of activity. Remember when Rush Limbaugh first got popular? The Left said he was brainwashing his listeners. To parody the charge, Rush started telling his listeners to relax over the weekend and he would read the newspapers for them and tell them what to think on Monday.

When Bush Jr. won the presidency, the Left began complaining that Bush brainwashed the public into voting for him. That if they were smart, they would have voted for Kerry.

Personally, I'm getting tired of all of it. Just because I disagree with a Leftie or Rightie doesn't mean I'm stupid. So stop implying it.

I'm not going to disagree with you that telling people they are stupid for opposing your ideology is not very effective. The indignation you represent in your blog is a pretty universal response.

I do think it is stupid to listen to someone who is paid to present a false sense of reality - and trained to use certain tactics of propaganda for that purpose - without devoting enough time to an independant, critical investigation into how the world works.

Our country has a two hundred year history. The conflict between the classes has been going on for a least a few thousand.

Yet Mr. Limbaugh's listeners think 'class warfare' is a trick Jesse Jackson uses to rile up the blacks and those too lazy to work. That's stupid.

Thanks for being an interesting blog. Too many I have to look at while blogmadding feel like a 2x4 to the forehead.

I read the Da Vinci Code last weekend and quite liked it. I was careful to note what was fact and what was fiction, and when Brown crossed the line from one to the other, because clearly a lot of people think he says everything in the book is true, and since it isn't, he's a fraud.

I don't think he's ever claimed it's true but naturally basing fiction on certain facts confuses a lot of people. I just wonder what some of these people are so worried about. Maybe they think others might start thinking for themselves for a change.
