Remember a few years ago, when New London, Connecticut used eminent domain to take some homes and give the land to a developer? The development, turns out, would have enhanced Pfizer, Inc.'s nearby corporate facility. Now, Pfizer is closing that facility. In other words, all that time, effort and money is wasted.

In related news, Dell Computers is closing a manufacturing plant in Winston-Salem, NC; one in Austin, Texas; and a call center in Idaho. Each of those cities gave Dell lucrative tax breaks to attract the jobs. Now, that money is wasted.

Maybe it's time we stopped handing out corporate welfare.
